Gogoi hails order on expenditure observer

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 19 - Congress Legislature Party leader Tarun Gogoi has welcomed the Election Commission of India (ECI) order of withdrawing its expenditure observer and asking the controlling authority to initiate departmental action against him.

In a statement here on Saturday, Gogoi said, ECIs order has vindicated our stand that the Expenditure Observers search in the house of a sitting minister of the present State Government in Assam is a political conspiracy. Gogoi urged the ECI to keep a hawk eye on all the political parties and their candidates in the fray in the ensuing State Assembly elections.

Gogoi said the ECIs directive on the Expenditure Observer, Raghavendra Singh, is indicative of the partisan and high-handed nature of Singhs discharge of duties. It also reflected that a party at the helm of affairs in the Central Government has a tacit role in using Singh in settling political scores.

Gogoi also expressed his apprehensions that more leaders from the Congress may be targeted in the run-up to the elections and requested the ECI to maintain a constant vigil in the electioneering in Assam.
