Gogoi Govt not for people, says Mahanta

By CORRESPONDENT

BARPETA, Dec 15 AGP president and former Chief Minister termed the present government of the State led by Tarun Gogoi as the government of electronic voting machines only. Addressing a public meeting at Mandia about 15 km from here, Mahanta alleged that the ruling Congress party manipulated the last Assembly elections by tampering the EVMs. The party was not voted to power by the electorate, he maintained. That is the main reason behind its indifference to the basic problems of the people of the State, Mahanta added.

Mahanta alleged that this government has neither fulfilled the aspirations of the people, nor is it willing to solve the genuine problems of the State. He further alleged that CBI has been used by the Government as its pet for its own interest. The ex-Chief Minister stated that a number of accused in the multi-crore-rupee Dima Hasao scandal are not allowed to be questioned by the Central investigating agency.

Addressing the meeting, ex-president of the AGP Chandra Mohan Patowary said that Tarun Gogoi has imposed a per capita loan of Rs 18,000 on the people of the State. Launching a scathing attack on the development plank of the Tarun Gogoi-led Government, Patowary said that the development is limited to publicity only. The resources and income of the present Government is the result of the struggle and initiatives made by the AGP and the Congress has no credit over it.
