Gogoi govt a failure, says BJP

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 21 - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Assam Pradesh, has asserted that the Tarun Gogoi government has no right to continue in power after its miserable failure to meet the expectations of the people.

The party pointed out that during the tenure of the Congress, corruption and scams had become rampant and law and order had deteriorated in an alarming way. The party said crime against women had escalated and they no longer felt safe.

As a mark of protest against the failure of the Gogoi government, the party staged a sit-in demonstration on the bank of the Dighalipukhuri here today. The demonstration, which began at 10 am today, will continue till 10 am tomorrow.

According to the party, the Gogoi government has failed on every front and development has eluded the State. The party also slammed the government for its failure to utilise Central funds.

It needs to be mentioned here that the party had earlier decided to voice its dissatisfaction with the ruling Congress in the State, at Dispur Last Gate, but was not granted permission by the authorities. Irked by the attitude of the authorities, the BJP said that this reflected the fear of the government that wanted to hide its failure.

The government, fearing that its failure would be exposed by the BJP with all relevant proofs, did not grant us permission to stage our demonstration at Dispur Last Gate, said a functionary of the party.

Party president Siddhartha Bhattacharya, MPs, MLAs and many senior leaders and members joined the demonstration today.

The party has warned that it will intensify its agitation in the days to come if the government continues to be apathetic towards the aspirations of the public.
