Gogoi for CBI probe

GUWAHATI, Jan 30 � Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today announced the Government decision to engage the CBI to go into the January 29 Behali incident in which ten villagers were gunned down by encroachers from Arunachal Pradesh.

According to official sources, the Chief Minister also talked to his Arunachal counterpart Nabam Tuki. The Arunachal Chief Minister assured Gogoi of full cooperation in nabbing the culprits involved in yesterday�s incident.

Chief Minister Gogoi has meanwhile, directed the administration to strengthen security arrangements in the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border areas. He asked the State police to ensure security arrangements in the border areas maintaining coordination with the Army and Central paramilitary forces so that a sense of security could be instilled among the people living in these areas.

According to an official press release, Gogoi, who was reviewing the law-and-order situation in the Assam-Arunachal border areas, also asked for steps to improve the road communication system in the border areas to facilitate faster movement of the security forces at any place of occurrence in these areas. He assured the DC of Sonitpur that the Government would provide the required funds for the purpose.
