Gogoi flays Sonowal, alleges Govt running on Sangh Parivar ideology

By Staff Correspondent

JORHAT, Sept 3 -Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today took a dig at the State BJP-led Government for failing to fulfill the pre-poll promises made after coming to power following a massive victory. Gogoi likened Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal with KingDhitrarashtra of mythological epic Mahabharata, who was blind.

Addressing media persons here today, Gogoi said Sonowal was turning a blind eye to all the problems plaguing the State and is maintaining a stoic silence.

Gogoi said that the BJP had given big slogans of good governance and development, but after coming to power the government seems to have forgotten the assurances they made to the people and was instead doing irrelevant things and courting controversies.

May be the government is indulging in irrelevant acts and controversies to divert the peoples attention, he said, referring to the move to name many colleges after one person, who had no contribution towards Assam except for being an ideologue of Sangh Parivar.

Slamming Sonowal, the former Chief Minister said that the present Chief Minister is maintaining silence and is allowing his Cabinet colleague Himanta Biswa Sarma to take the centre stage. He wondered whether Sonowal was running the government or Himanta.

Mincing no words about Sarma, Gogoi said his former blue-eyed boy (Sarma) was behaving in a manner like the mighty Bhima of the epic Mahabharata by forcefully trying to do things against the peoples wishes unlike the epic character who never did anything unjust.

Himanta has been showing his arrogance and disrespect to the people every other day and have not even spared the teachers who are placed on high pedestal in the society. He (Himanta) is on the way to become modern day Ravana, Gogoi observed.

He said be it employment, development, health department functioning, law and order, economic scenario, the government has not only failed to move ahead, but has gone backwards.

Pointing out to the extension of AFSPA in Assam by the State Government, which no earlier State Government had done since 1990,Gogoi said the move very well reflects the deterioration of law and order situation in present times contrary to an era of peace developed during 15 years of Congress rule.

He said the Sonowal-led Government was being run like a puppet by the RSS, which he said was trying to destroy the culture of peace and harmony practiced in Assam since ages with people from various tribes, groups and communities co-existing with their own distinctive cultural traits.

Gogoi also lambasted the Prime Minister Narendra Modi who too made tall promises before the Assembly polls, but has completely forgotten thereafter. He took a dig at Modi for rushing to Gujarat as floods hit the State but came to Assam after floods wrecked the State and offered nothing significant.

Gogoi also flayed Modis Cabinet reshuffle for not including any MP from Assam in the Central Cabinet Ministers list.He said during UPA tenures there was representation in the Union Cabinet.
