Gogoi elected for fourth term from Titabor

JORHAT, May 20 - Giving a clear indication of his undisputed popularity among the voters even in the toughest period of his party, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi defeated his immediate rival, Kamakhya Prasad Tasa of the BJP in Titabor, by a margin of 17,495 votes.

Election officials stated that 62,025 voters gave their mandate in favour of Gogoi who was elected for the fourth consecutive term. The BJP candidate and Jorhat MP Tasa got 44,530 votes. Next to him, CPI�s Kula Das got 2,413 votes in the constituency.

A total of 1,726 voters of the constituency opted for NOTA. Asked why Gogoi was elected for the fourth consecutive term, several elderly voters of Titabor said that no other leader of any political party could match his personality.
