Gogoi confident of Cong victory

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 17 Sounding upbeat on the Congress fortunes in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today claimed that the party would settle for no less than a dozen seats in Assam.

I have always been maintaining that we will easily win ten seats. But our target is to bag 12 seats, and Congress vice president and prime ministerial candidate Rahul Gandhi says that we might win even all the 14 seats, Gogoi said at a press conference.

Gogoi also denied entering into any pre-poll understanding with the AIUDF something fuelled by the latters fielding of weak candidates in some constituencies and said that the AIUDF, in fact, was helping the BJP.

Taking a dig at the BJP, Gogoi said that the saffron brigades trademark religion-based polarisation tactics would come a cropper in the State as also in the country, as the people no longer trusted non-secular forces.

Divisive politics of the BJP will not succeed, as the people can see through such designs, he said.
