GOC 101 Area meets Chief Secretary, DGP

GUWAHATI, April 18 - Lt Gen DS Ahuja, General Officer Commanding, 101 Area accompanied by Maj Gen Arun Kumar, GOC, 51 Sub Area called on State Chief Secretary VK Pipersenia at his office at the Secretariat here today.

The GOC discussed a number of issues with the Chief Secretary. The ongoing water crisis at Narangi and Basistha cantonments was discussed in detail. The issues of handing over of land for establishment of an Army Institute of Nursing and the problem of illegal occupation of forest land around Narangi Cantonment were also deliberated upon in detail.

The GOC also called on State DGP Mukesh Sahay at the Assam Police headquarters. The two officers deliberated on the security situation in the State and issues pertaining to rear area security.

It is pertinent to note that 101 Area with its headquarters at Shillong, has a major role to play with its area of responsibility extending across the entire length and breadth of the north-eastern region of the country covering all the seven states.

The role of the formation in addition to other things includes rear area security, disaster management, aid to civil authorities as internal security responsibility when called upon, welfare of ex-serviceman and widows. The formation also contributes towards the development of the region and environmental preservation.
