GOALPARA, Sept 19 - Abdul Hoque, a resident of Udaynagar of Goalpara town got the shock of his life when he recieved a electricity bill amounting to a whopping Rs 79,21,497/- for bill period between 02/09/17 to 01/09/17 for 31 days for 990246.00 billable units. Hoque has a domestic electrical connection with consumer no 51000315158, under category LT domestic A and pays an average monthly elctricity bill of Rs 1200/- per month. He paid a bill of Rs 1248/-in the month of August (from 02/07/17 to 01/08/17) and he doesn�t have any outstanding bill amount.
When contacted, Hoque said that he recieved the highly inflated bill with an absurd amount which is factually wrong and mentioned that it is beyond anyone�s imagination how a bill with such a huge and impossible amount be issued by the electricty Board against a domestic connection with a known average monthly consumption throughout the year. Hoque is now planning to approach the consumer court to resolve the matter while on the other hand, he demanded that the electricty board issue a new corrected bill on the basis of monthly average consumption and withdraw the amount of the current faulty bill.
Meanhwile, technical glitches may be cited as one of the reason for the faulty bill, an official opined.
