Goalpara boys clinch school cricket title

GUWAHATI, June 5 - Riding on an all round show by man-of-the-match Sambhab Jain, Mother Merry School of Goalpara lifted the Dhan Sena Sinha Trophy with a convincing 56-run victory against South Point School in the final of the 13th All Assam Prize-money Inter School Cricket Tournament, organised by the River Rine Cricket Coaching Centre. At the Latasil playground here today, opting to bat first the Goalpara boys gathered a challenging 169 for nine in the stipulated 35 overs. The highlight of the Goalpara innings was 79-ball 50 off the blade of Sambhab which was studded with six boundaries. Mohsin Ahmed (44) was the other notable contributor for their team.

For the local team, Riyan Parag captured four wickets giving away 12 runs. The talented South Point batsmen today failed to hit form and started losing wickets at regular intervals. Finally they were all out for 113 in 27.5 overs.

Individual prize winners are: Dhruv Raaj Borah (South Point School, Man of the Series); Gaurav Thakuria (Mother Merry School, Best Batsman); Tikharjyoti Gogoi (Mother Merry School, Best Bowler); Riyan Parag (South Point School, Best All Rounder); Mohsin Ahmed (Mother Merry School, Best Fielder); Sayan Dey (South Point School, Best Wicket Keeper); Pragjyotish Sr Secondary School (Boragaon, Most Disciplined Team); Sahil Gupta (Fairyland High School), Dhiraj Hazarika (Assam Jatiya Bidyalay, both Promising Players).
