GNLA triggers IED blast in Chokpot

TURA, April 26 � Suspected GNLA militants triggered an IED blast in Chokpot area of South Garo Hills this afternoon following which a heavy gun battle took place there.

A platoon of armed police personnel from the State battalion was returning to Tura when militants hiding in the thick jungles triggered the blast which very narrowly missed them. A local woman, who was passing through the area, suffered shock from the explosion. She is being provided medical treatment.

The incident took place at 4 pm just after leaving Chokpot on the road to Tura. Police personnel returned fire by the militants who later fled from the scene.

Security forces later found wires connected to the IED. Search operation is on.
