GNLA cadre killed

By Correspondent

TURA, Sept 27 - A suspected cadre of Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) was killed in a fierce encounter with police in Patalgre village of East Garo Hills district today.

Police said, a group of around 20 GNLA men were camping in a place between Patalgre and Dorengkigre in East Garo Hills. We received information of a militant camp near Patalgre. Police reached the camp but were spotted by the rebels. An encounter ensued in which one cadre, identified as Katrak D Shira, was killed, said SP Eat Garo Hills Davis Nestell R Marak.

An AK-56 rifle was later recovered from the spot along with camp materials. The police chased the militants who managed to escape. About ten of them were located hiding in Dorenkigre village but the police refrained from engaging them as there was a heavy civilian population in the area.

Later, as the police team was coming back from the raid, they were ambushed at about 11.20 am. But the police retaliated, added Marak. There were no injuries to any policemen during the encounter. The body of the slain militant was brought to Williamnagar.
