GNLA attacks police post in Garo Hills

TURA, Aug 16 - Suspected cadres of Garo National Liberation Army attacked a police outpost in Dobu Achakgre, about 120 kms from here in East Garo Hills. The incident happened when the police was raising the tricolour in the outpost at 7 am on August 15.

According to police, the militants fired a few rounds and then fled into the jungles nearby. The bullets hit a door of a school where the policemen were sitting. No one was hurt, the police added.

In another incident, a policeman, Bijoy Momin, who was on his way Mendipathar in his motorcycle, was stopped by alleged GNLA militants and assaulted before his bike was set on fire. The incident happened at about 6.30 am and is allegedly done by the ultras for defying their agitation call.

The attack took place in Suangre village, about 130 kms from Tura in North Garo Hills district.

�There were about 12 armed cadres of the outfit that attacked Momin. They had to retreat after villagers gathered in large numbers�, police said.
