GNLA area commander in police net

TURA, Nov 11 - The area commander of Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) and a cadre of the outfit were arrested by a team of East Garo Hills district police on Wednesday near Dobu area.

The commander, Chekan N Marak (Bawang, 35), was arrested from a hideout along with another cadre, identified as Ronseng N Marak (25). The Dobu village is about 120 kms from Tura town.

The police team acted on a tip-off regarding presence of the cadres who had apparently been hiding there for the past two weeks and arrested them from a house in Dobu Nengbari at about 5.30 am. �Bawang is a senior cadre of the outfit belonging to the second batch. He was involved in many heinous crimes and terrorist activities, including the thrashing of villagers in Pakregre village in 2014, which had caused a huge furore across the country. He is a resident of the same village,� said SP of EGH, Davis Marak.
