GMDA to reconstruct 18 roads

GUWAHATI, Nov 5 - The Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has taken up a major initiative of developing and reconstructing 18 existing roads within December this year.

With most of the road projects getting government approval, the GMDA will start work on all the roads at the earliest, targeting completion of the projects as well as beautification of Guwahati within this year.

�We have prepared a list of 38 major works to be done in the year 2015-16, of which most projects have got approval from the State government. Work has already started on several projects, while for the remaining projects, work will start shortly,� GMDA Chairman Dhiren Baruah told The Assam Tribune.

�Statues of Hem Barua, Mahendra Mohan Choudhury, Ambika Giri Roy Choudhury, Mohammad Tayebulla and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose are almost ready. Other beautification drives are also on the anvil,� added Baruah.

The GMDA will also start work on developing the Latasil field and beautifying two other parks at Machkhowa and Kharghuli.
