GUWAHATI, June 16 � The Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) today termed the encroachment of the Silsako Beel in the city a criminal offence under the Guwahati Water-bodies Preservation and Conservation Act 2008. �The encroachers who are found occupying such government-notified land are liable to eviction by the Circle Officer, Dispur Revenue Circle,� GMDA said in a statement.
It added, �Any person encroaching the Silsako Beel is asked to vacate the land and remove any unauthorised structure immediately. Otherwise, such encroachment and unauthorised structure shall be evicted by force as per the provisions of the Assam Land Revenue Regulation Act and the Guwahati Water-bodies Preservation and Conservation Act. Strict legal action will also be initiated against such persons found violating the laws.�
