GMCH Radiology dept conducts CME

GUWAHATI, June 26 - A daylong CME was held at the Department of Radiology, Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on advance ultrasonic application in foetal imaging recently, stated a delayed press release.

A day prior to the CME, two high-end ultrasonography machines were installed at the said department for inutero foetal imaging (diagnostic imaging of foetus in mother's womb) and for other advance ultrasonic imaging of patients.

Director of Medical Education Dr Anup Barman, in his speech as the chief guest of the inaugural session, praised the efforts of the Radiology Department, GMCH, for arranging the CME-cum-workshop for the postgraduate students of the northeastern region and North Bengal. He dedicated the services of the high-end ultrasonography units to patient care.

Principal Prof AK Adhikary inaugurated the CME and dedicated the CME-cum-workshop for skill development of postgraduate students of Gauhati Medical College, Assam Medical College, Silchar Medical College, Govt Medical College, Tripura, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal; North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences, Shillong; North Bengal Medical College, Siliguri. About 110 participants attended the workshop.

Prof Dr BK Duara, Professor & HoD Radiology, also hailed the efforts of the department to make it a skill development hub for students of radiology. He introduced the resource persons - Prof Prem Kumar, Prof and HoD Radiology, AIIMS-Patna; Dr Pranav Kr Santhalia, faculty, AIIMS-Patna; Prof C Daniela, NEIGRIHMS, Prof Meena Kumari, RIMS Imphal; Prof A Bhattacharjee, GMCH.

Prof Prem Kumar dwelt on foetal growth restrictions, which is the main cause of perinatal infant mortality. Hence, Skill development in ultrasonic diagnosis of growth restrictions is important for radiologists, he said.

Prof Dr B K Duara spoke in detail about the PC-PNDT Act and its relevance for Radiologists. Dr Pranav Kumar Santhalia of AIIMS elaborated on intrauterine foetal anomaly diagnosis with ultrasonography.

Prof Prem Kumar, Prof A Bhattacharjee, GMCH, Dr Pranav Kr Santhalia, AIIMS; and Prof BK Duara conducted the workshop.

Prof BK Duara thanked the faculties and participants for successful completion of the programme. The CME ended with a valedictory session conducted by Prof Prem Kumar and Prof BK Duara, the release added.
