GUWAHATI, May 6 - As part of celebration of World Environment Day on June 5, Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) is going to organise awareness programmes in all the 31 wards of the city to generate awareness about protection of the environment through cleanliness.

This was revealed by GMC Joint Commissioner Siddhartha Goswami today while taking part in the Inter Media Publicity Coordination Committee (IMPCC) meeting for the month of May held in the conference hall of the office of the Director General, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Guwahati. The theme of todays meeting was Cleanliness in Guwahati city.

Kuldeep Singh Dhatwalia, Director General, North East Zone, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, who is also the Chairman of IMPCC Assam Chapter, chaired the meeting. In his address he highlighted the activities carried out by the office of the DG, Ministry of I&B, Guwahati last year as part of the cleanliness drive under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

Mentioning that it was just a beginning, Dhatwalia said cleanliness should be a continuous process and everyone should join hands together to keep the city clean. In the cleanliness process, GMC, GMDA and Guwahati Smart City Limited are making special efforts, but something more is required to be done and all other departments should also cooperate with them, he said.
