By ANN Service

PATACHARKUCHI, Nov 21 - A youth is busy in imparting martial art training to interested girls in Pathsala and surrounding areas free of cost in order to make themselves fit for self defence. Arnabjan Sarma (19), a black-belt holder and a resident of Bamunkuchi village took this initiative and has received a huge response from girls of various age groups. We start the training early in the morning. An idea came to my mind that if the girls are trained in the martial arts and are taught techniques to overcome sudden attacks of unsocial elements, it will be very easy to defend themselves.

That is why I started this work in Pathsala. Not only girls but interested boys also have been included in the group. At present, 50 girls and 20 boys of different age groups are being trained, Sarma said. The scene in Bajali HS School playground attracts commuters as they watch the training during morning hours. The trainer is presently working as the Assistant Secretary of Bajali District Karate Do Association. He also informed that those who were interested to learn martial arts, he will help them.

We are very happy to undergo such training and we are developing skills, said Rasna Mani Choudhury, a 20-year-old girl. Kakali Dutta, another trainee and a 5th semester student of BA, said that it is very important for everyone to learn martial arts. We spend a few hours in the training and feel physically fit, she said.

Sarma informed that such training is going on in 10 districts. The initiative of the youth has been lauded by the locals.
