Ghatowar expels two senior ACMS leaders

DIBRUGARH, Oct 3 - Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS) president and five-time MP, Paban Singh Ghatowar-led trade union today expelled Narayan Mahar and Aklius Tirkey, the president and secretary respectively of Golaghat branch of the Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha from the trade union, alleging breach of the union�s constitution by the duo.

The decision to expel the two leaders of the Golaghat ACMS unit was taken during an urgent meeting of the central working committee of the union held at the head office of the ACMS at Jibon Phukan Nagar here today. The two leaders have also been accused of creating factions among the tea garden workers while also forming a new Golaghat district unit of the Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS) without the consent of the general workers.

It may be mentioned here that Aklius Tirkey was elected twice to the Assam Legislative Assembly on Congress ticket from 94 Sarupathar constituency in Golaghat district. At present, his daughter Roselina Tirkey is the MLA of Sarupathar. The trade union�s central working committee also alleged that both Narayan and Aklius were trying to gain political mileage by engaging in anti-union activities.
