SILCHAR, Nov 3 � The 11broad gauge conversation work at the Silchar Railway Station has gained momentum and is going on at an impressive rate. According to PK Das, the Deputy Chief Engineer (Constructions) of NF Railways, the conversion work will be wrapped up within the estimated timeline.
�The pace of work is gaining momentum with each passing day and we are hopeful to complete the project within the set time period. Also we are confident of running the first railway engine on the newly laid tracks by February 2015,� Das said.
Das informed that around 700 workers are engaged in the conversion work in the Silchar-Badarpur route. He further said that Silchar station is an �A� class station. There will be two entry points, two platforms and one foot-over bridge for the passengers, he said. He added to say that the new platform will be made on the other end of the existing one and will be 10 meters wide. He also said that there will be two lines on either side of platform number 2 and one on either side of platform number 1 with three passenger platform lines.
Meanwhile, the BJP Cachar district leaders including the local MLA Dilip Kumar Paul recently visited the railway station to take stock of the progress. The leaders met with the NF Railway officials and also performed a cleanliness drive in the station premises.
