Gate inaugurated at Gossaigaon High School

GOSSAIGAON, Aug 22 - The Gossaigaon High School was established in 1947 and the first Head Master was Tara Charan Mazumder of Chamata, Nalbari. To spread education in the extreme part of western Assam, Late Tara Majumder sacrificed a lot. Many notable personalities had their initial education in this school. These include: Former Governor of Meghalaya, Ranjit Sekhar Mushahary, several IAS and IPS officers, litterateurs, educationists, politicians like Late Ranendra Narayan Basumatary, Mithius Tudu, renowed artist Late Sobha Ram Brahma, scientists, engineers, athletics and doctors. The next Head Master, Late Promod Ch Basumatary was also an educationist of strict principles. But the school has had no permanent gate.

Sagar Basumatry, a young energetic social worker and contractor has come forward for erecting a beautiful gate in front of the school. He donated Rs 1.62 lakh for the construction of the gate. He himself at the request of the Principal inaugurated the gate recently in the midst of the teaching staff, students, guardians, SMDC president and the vice-president.
