TURA, March 16 - The Warima bridge across the river Simsang in Williamnagar, East Garo Hills, is finally set to see completion this month, after a long wait of almost 34 years.
The foundation stone for the bridge, according to some locals, was laid way back in December 1983.
The problems with the bridge started right from the time of awarding of contract. The 500 metre bridge was alloted to four contractors, each being given one-fourth section. With the main bridge section stuck due to problems faced by the original contractor, the other sections could not even get off the ground.
We recently paid a visit to check on the progress on the bridge. It is almost completed. We should be able to open the bridge by April this year, said Deborah Marak, Animal Husbandry Minister and local MLA.
