GUWAHATI, Oct 7 - Padma Shri award winning Gandhian Natwar Thakkar, also known as Nagalands Gandhi, passed away at a private hospital here this morning. He was 86.

He leaves behind his wife Lentina Ao, two daughters and a son. Thakkar was admitted to hospital on September 19.

His son Dr Aotoshi said the Gandhian showed signs of recovery but suddenly his blood pressure started dropping and later the kidneys too failed.

The mortal remains of Thakkar are being taken to his workplace in Nagalands Chuchuyimlang, he said.

Thakkar had founded the Nagaland Gandhi Ashram and his relentless efforts to spread Gandhian philosophy had earned him great respect.

Although he hails from Maharashtra, he made Nagaland his home ever since he came to the State in 1955.
