Gamlin and Tuki to meet Sonia

NEW DELHI, Oct 14 In a fresh attempt to defuse the political crisis in Arunachal Pradesh, AICC on Friday asked leaders of both the camps to direct their MLAs to head back to Itanagar. Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin and PCC president Nabam Tuki were asked to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday.

In a bid to end the political uncertainty in the State, the Congress party held a series of meetings on Friday with the Chief Minister and Tuki, before they were directed to maintain status-quo and return to the State and await further instructions from AICC.

According to sources, the high-powered group appointed by the Congress president is likely to visit Itanagar shortly and meet the MLAs individually to ascertain their preference. Depending on the outcome of the meeting, a Congress Legislature Party meeting may be convened to resolve the impasse, said sources.

The Chief Minister, who landed in the capital this afternoon, first joined Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, BK Handique and Dhaniram Shandil for a meeting at the Power Ministry. Half-way through, political adviser to the Congress president, Ahmed Patel asked the leaders to rush to his residence.

The Chief Minister, who was at the meeting for about half-an-hour, left Patels house before the PCC president was called to join the meeting. Sources said Patel in no uncertain terms told both the leaders to first meet Congress president and then head back to Itanagar.

As reported, a group of MLAs have been camping in the capital for the last couple of months demanding change of leadership in the State.

Sources said the committee led by Shinde has already started its job and are currently talking to the MLAs.
