By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 30 BJP president Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday emphasized that time has come to plan the future of Assam which is far behind other States in the country in terms of infrastructure, human resource development and GDP.

Releasing the Asom of our Dreams-Vision 2025 at a function held here, the BJP leader said that there cannot be progress of the State without planning and working for the future. Our vision document for Assam is initiation of a continuous process and not the conclusion. BJP believes in fulfilling dreams and we call upon the people of Assam to give BJP a chance to realize the dreams, appealed Gadkari assuring that this vision document would be the base for all development schemes of the NDA if it returns to power at the Centre.

This vision document complete with 35 subjects pertinent to the development of the State has been prepared by the party with suggestions and contributions from all sections of the population. The party had organized public hearings and group discussions of intellectuals and experts at many places for the vision document.

The vision document envisages an Assam free from infiltration and flourishing on optimum utilization of its resources.

The BJP will prepare and publish the NRC as early as possible and carry out drastic overhaul of electoral rolls which will ensure inclusion of displaced communities and expulsion of infiltrators, said Gadkari.

Development of agriculture, agro industry, road transport, education, textile and handicrafts, railways etc are some of the areas which have been pointed out as important for changing the economy of Assam in the document.

Despite having the resources, Assam is not a developed State. Even the central funds allocated for Assam go into the coffers of the Congress politicians and the people continue to suffer, Gadkari criticized the Congress governments at the State and the Centre.

While Assam continues to lag on all development indices on account of corruption, the Tarun Gogoi governments graph is always moving up, said Gadkari.

The BJP leader known for the success of Mumbai-Pune Expressway said that a twin thrust on industry and agriculture will bring the desired progress in Assam. He also said that for industrial growth, water, power, transport and communication areas should be developed. Assam needs world quality road network and low cost helicopter connectivity. Our vision document also lays stress on introducing metro and mono rail in cities like Guwahati, said Gadkari.

Besides developing Sualkuchi as an ideal cooperative township of looms, the document mentions the need of instituting a Rice Research Institute to study possibility of best quality rice yield, launching a scheme to facilitate immediate availability of loans to farmers by mortgaging food stock with government, computerization of the Public Distribution System, introducing financial incentives to attract investors, setting up a river research institute to study flood and land erosion, etc.

Gadkari asserted that the BJP was committed to ensure that the benefits of progress reached the last man in the common crowd.
