Fund utilisation in Tripura to be reviewed

By Correspondent

AGARTALA, Oct 29 Taking a serious note of misuse of Central fund in Tripura, Union Minister of State (MoS) for Parliamentary Affairs V Narayanswami on Thursday said that a team of Planning Commissions monitoring cell would soon visit the Marxist- ruled State to review the utilisation of money pumped against different welfare schemes.

Narayanswami, who arrived here on Wednesday to attend a Mahila Congress conference as well review the partys campaign for upcoming civic polls, came down heavily on the CPM-led government for failing to utilise the Central funds.

The number of BPL families has been increased from 17 lakh to 22 lakh during the 17 years of Leftist regime in Tripura despite substantial allocation of fund for socio-economic development. The increase in the number of BPL families indicates that development has not taken place in the State, he pointed out. Narayanswami said that Tripura received Rs 746.93 crore under different Central Government sponsored schemes during 2009-10 financial year.

Of the total allocation, the Left Front government has failed to use Rs 150 crore, he said adding that out of the total plan outlay for 2009-10, an amount of Rs 100 crore remained unspent.

On the State Government claim of deprivation by the Planning Commission, Narayanswami said that Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has no right to seek more money because his government has failed to spend the plan outlay. The Centre has been pumping crores of rupees to boost the urban facilities here but is this development, he asked.
