AIZAWL, April 11 - Mizoram Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Minister John Rotluangliana has declared he would not resign on incompetency ground. The assertion of the Minister came recently after opposition MNF vice president and former Health Minister R Tlanghmingthanga demanded his resignation on the issue of implementation of National Food Security Act which the opposition leader allegedly said was hampered by the Minister.
Earlier, the anti-corruption watchdog PRISM had also demanded that the Minister resign for allegedly being incompetent to look after his department.
Speaking to reporters, Rotluangliana said the NFSA was implemented in Mizoram after its provisions have been improved by the State Government. He claimed that the NFSA if implemented would have covered only about seven lakh people and the beneficiaries would get only five kilos of rice per month.
With the initiative of the Chief Minister, the provisions of the Act have been amended and improved to allocate additional three kilos of rice to the beneficiaries to make it a monthly quota of eight kilos. Though the NFSA was initially rejected by the Chief Minister and branded by me as draconian law, it has been implemented in the State after improvement and transformation, he said.
Though the ration cards are not yet fully completed, the government was forced to implement the NFSA as otherwise the people were likely to starve, he said, adding that there was no ground for him to resign as Minister although the opposition demanded him to do so.
