Friendship day celebrated

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 2 - Friendship is said to be the one relationship that has the power to put to an end all the hatred in the world. It is the only connection that ensures that every worry and tension is wiped out from life.

On the auspicious occasion of Friendship Day today, the Marwari Yuva Manch, Guwahati branch chose to motivate people, particularly the youth to donate blood as an affirmation of their responsibility towards the society. Rahul Chamaria of the youth body informed that during the blood donation camp held at the Marwari Maternity Research Centre around 103 units of blood were collected. Donors between 18 and 45 years and from different walks of life participated in the camp.

A good number of units of rare blood groups were also collected during the day-long camp, said Chamaria.

Celebrating the ties of friendship, citizens from all walks of life and from various age groups chose to spend some moments with their friends indulging in fun-filled activities. While some preferred a quiet lunch, others opted out for the amusement centres and parks. In the capital city, citizens made a beeline for the restaurants and entertainment points which led to traffic snarls in several arterial roads.

Most of my friends are based outside the State. We exchanged greetings over phone and through the social networking sites today, said Rubina Ahmed of Guwahati adding that technology has made it possible to be in touch with friends even when they are far away.

With social networking sites making it easier for people to connect, friends wished each other and remembered sweet memories shared over the years. Many also opted to go outside the city to be in the midst of nature and unwind with greenery and silence in the backdrop. Resorts located outside the city attracted more than the usual footfall on this special day.
