JAMUGURIHAT, Jan 3 - Durlabh Sharma, a prominent social worker and freedom fighter celebrated his 101st birthday recently at his own residence at Sarubhagia, Jamugurihat at a solemn function.
The birthday celebration was organised by Jamuguri Sahitya Sabha with the help of his family members with a few selected invitees. By cutting a cake his birth day was celebrated.
Born on December 4, 1916, Sharma actively took part in the 1942 Quit India Movement by joining the �Mrityu Bahinee�, suffered police torture, went underground to avoid arrest at the advice of the leaders of the movement, but unfortunately he has neither got the freedom fighters pension nor government recognition till now though he has tried several times. But he was not dissatisfied and engaged himself in various social, cultural, religious and educational organisations of the area firmly believing in the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi.
Book release: Tales of Shakespeare, a translation from the English book of the same name by Charles and Marry Lamb by retired teacher Kamal Rajbanshi was released in a function held at Bhaskar Jyoti Adarsha Vidyapith, Khanaguri, Chatiya recently.
Releasing the book, Bhaben Borah, retied HoD, English THB College Jamugurihat praised the effort of Rajbanshi and said that this translation will give the taste of the works of the greatest dramatist William Shakespeare to the readers of Assam specially to the students. The function presided over by Pratap Borah, retired teacher of Dolong Guri HS School, and the president of the Adarsha Vidyapith was attended by Pramod Borthakur, MLA Biswanath and retired principal Dilip Bhowmik among others.
