By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 20 The Nawka Hearing Aid Centre, a pioneer in hearing healthcare in the Northeast which has been providing audiological services since its inception in 1984 from the Lakhtokia centre has launched its second clinic at second floor of Sanmati Plaza, above Ashoka Furnishing, GS Road here.

To celebrate the opening of its second clinic, the Nawka Hearing Aid Centre is conducting a tow-day free hearing check-up camp at the new centre on January 22 and 23.

Informing this here today, Saurav Nawka, audiologist and speech language pathologist, said that the hearing check-up, hearing-aid trial-programming and counselling will be done absolutely free of cost. Infants, children of all age group, adults and senior citizens who face difficulty in listening would be tested and treated by specialised and trained professionals, he said.

In adults, the most common causes of hearing loss are loud noise and aging. The degree of loss may vary from mild to severe and is always permanent in nature. Noise-induced hearing loss may occur suddenly or slowly over time. Other causes also include injury to the head causing a ruptured eardrum. Tinnitus (ringing in the ear) is also becoming a major health issue, Nawka informed.

Our speech unit, Shabd Speech Rehabilitation Centre at Silpukhuri here is a one stop solution centre for all types of communication difficulties in both children and adults. An individualised therapeutic plan is prepared to meet their intricate speech and language requirements. All communication disorders like stammering, mispronunciation, voice disorders to speaking difficulties in children with autism and hyperactivity are treated at the centre, he added.
