Four get rigorous life imprisonment for murder

DHUBRI, March 1 - The Court of Additional Sessions Judge, Dhubri, recently awarded rigorous life imprisonment to four persons and imposed a penalty of Rs 1,000 each after finding them guilty of killing a villager more than 15 years ago.

The four persons out of 22 accused were found guilty of killing one Osman Ali, and causing injuries to Nur Islam, Ali Hussain and Nur Mohammed, the complainant and setting on fire the house of Mohammed.

Apart from murder, the accused � Keta Ali, Sattar Ali, Shib Charan Rabi Das and Moinul Hoque � were also found guilty of rioting with sharp weapons. The court, along with the life imprisonment, also awarded additional three years� rigorous imprisonment to each of them and pay a fine of Rs 1,000 each. Moreover, an additional six months� rigorous imprisonment has also been awarded to each of them for finding them guilty under Section 427 and 323 of IPC.

It may be mentioned here that, on June 16, 2001, when the complainant at his residence at Belguri (Part 2) village, three of the accused asked him to attend a meeting. When Mohammed refused to attend the gathering because of the arrival of relatives at his home, he was warned by the accused to face consequences for not listening to them.

Later, a mob attacked the family of Mohammed and his relatives that arrived from the neighbouring village, with lathi and sharp weapons. The accused attacked the brother of the complainant, Osman Ali, killing him on the spot. The complainant and other relatives, including women of the family, were injuries during the attack.

As per the complaint, the accused also took away ornaments and household properties of Nur Mohammed before setting it on fire.
