Four disqualified from Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH, Sept 24 - The names of at least four persons from the district have figured in the list of 63 disqualified candidates announced by the Election Commission of India for failing to submit expenditure details.

The disqualified candidates include Sima Ghosh of 116 Dibrugarh LAC, Ratul Gogoi and Kumud Gogoi of 117 Lahowal LAC and Keshab Saikia of 119 Tingkhong LAC. Sima Ghosh hails from Purnananda Road here while Ratul Gogoi is from Borgoritalia, Rohmoria and Kumud Gogoi is from Hatigandhi village in Lahowal. Keshab Saikia is a resident of Sarupathar Gaon in Moran.

All the four disqualified candidates had contested the last Assembly election. Sima Ghosh and Kumud Gogoi contested as Independent candidates while Ratul Gogoi was from the Communist Party of India (CPI) and Keshab Saikia was from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). From among the total voters, Sima Ghosh had secured 1.20% votes, Kumud Gogoi 3.79% votes, Ratul Gogoi 2.11% votes and Keshab Saikia 1.60% votes in the last Assembly polls.

The disqualification period is up to August 22, 2016, which means they will not be eligible to contest in the 2016 Assembly elections if polls are held on time.
