By Correspondent

KALAIGAON, March 28 - Hectic political activities have been seen in 65-Kalaigaon LAC which is going to polls on April 11.

Though the picture is not very clear, but from the activities of candidates it could be assumed that a tough contest awaits the sitting AGP MLA Mukunda Ram Choudhury with AGP and BPF leading the election campaign followed by UPP and Congress.

A four-cornered contest is seen so far. Fifteen candidates namely sitting MLA, Mukunda Ram Choudhury (AGP), former MLA Maheswar Boro (BPF), former MLA Nathu Ram Boro (AIUDF), Babul Basumatari (UPP), Indrajit Kumar Saikia (Cong), Brajen Mahanta (SJEM), Jitendra Chaliha (SUCI), Sudhendu Mohan Sarkar (BGP), Sushil Kumar Sarma (LJP), Arun Baruah (New AICP), Dr Nayan Moni Bhagawati (Independent), Radhesyam Chouhan (Independent), Gopal Sarkar ( Independent), Bijoy Das (Independent), Abdul Sabaor (Independent) have filed their nominations in 65-Kalaigaon LAC.

It needs to be mentioned here that in the previous Assembly elections in 2011, AGP candidate Mukunda Ram Choudhury defeated BPF candidate Maheswar Boro by a comfortable margin.

There are in total 1,54,193 voters (79,542 male and 74,651 female) in the LAC. There are 168 polling stations in Kalaigaon Assembly constituency, out of which 44 polling stations have been identified as hyper sensitive, 26 as sensitive and 98 as comparatively safer.

Although 102 polling stations of Kalaigaon fall under Udalguri district and only 66 polling stations fall under Darrang district, the ECI has authorised Darrang administration for conducting the 2016 Assembly elections.
