Four books released in Jorhat

JORHAT, Aug 30 - Four eminent personalities from literary, cultural and political fields of the state today released four books published by the Asam Sahitya Sabha at a function held at Danbir Radhakanta Handique Bhawan within the Sabha central office premises here.

Among the four books was the compilation of articles published in the Arunodoi - the first Assamese language magazine devoted to religion, science and general intelligence that was published by the American Baptist Mission in the middle of the 19th century.

The book, re-edited by Dr Basanta Kumar Goswami, former Sabha general secretary, was released by Satradhikar of Auniati Satra of Majuli Dr Pitambar Devagoswami.

Former Sabha president Dr Nagen Saikia, who was the chief guest of the function, released the book titled �Asam Sahitya Sabhar Itihaas� ( Volume II - From 1953 to 1976), written by Dr Basanta Kumar Goswami.

Noted poet Dr Karabi Deka Hazarika released the book, �Prachin Kamrup Kamotat Prachalita Baishnav Geet Aru Kalita�, a collection by Soumyadeep Datta.

Speaker of the state Assembly and Jorhat MLA Hitendra Nath Goswami released the book, �Asamiya Bhraman Sahitya Samikhya�, edited by Bhupen Saikia and Dr Chitrajit Saikia.

Dr Nagen Saikia, in his address, spoke about the journey of Assamese literature and its development till date. He hoped the four books released will be of much use for the present and upcoming generations keen to know about Assamese literature.

The function was presided by the Sabha president Dr Paramananda Rajbongshi and he gave the welcome address.
