BARPETA, Oct 15 - Four persons were arrested in connection with the cow head throwing case on an altar of a Than at Banglipara near Bhabanipur in Barpeta district. The Superintendent of Police Barpeta, Shiladitya Chetia informed this correspondent that Hemen Talukdar, Rantu Ram Patgiri, Mrigen Mazumdar and Shobhan Ali were picked up by the police this morning from different parts of the district.
It may be mentioned here that mild sensation prevailed in the entire district when local people noticed that a dissected head of a slaughtered cow was lying on the altar of the Madan Mohan Than at Banglipara on October 12 last. BJP strongly protested the incident and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits. The party even called for a Barpeta district bandh on October 14. The arrest of the four persons unveils the other side of the story. The people of the district thanked the police for its prompt action which will definitely prevent impending communal clashes.
