Foundation stone of market buildings laid

GUWAHATI, March 5 � On the eve of enforcement of the model code of conduct and declaration of the Lok Sabha polls, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi laid the foundation stone of four market buildings of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) at different locations in the city this morning.

The four markets will be at Ulubari, Fatasil, Rupnagar and Ganeshguri localities, an official statement said.

Guwahati East MLA Captain Robin Bordoloi and GMC Mayor Abir Patra were also present on the occasion.

The foundation stone laying ceremony was held jointly at Ulubari market.

The total initial expenditure during the first phase on construction of the markets would be Rs 10 crore.

Incidentally, the ceremony was organized as early as 9 am this morning to beat the model code of conduct, which was enforced when the Chief Election Commissioner announced the polls at a press conference in New Delhi at 10.30 am.
