JORHAT, Dec 14 - In recognition of unique contribution of Ganashilpi Moghai Oja to popularise Dhol (drum) to the world stage with his masterful beats, the Jorhat district unit of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parsihad (AJYCP) today organised a programme to lay the foundation stone of a marble-statue near the police station here.

In presence of the Vice Chancellor of Assam Agricultural University (AAU) Dr Kamal Malla Bujarbaruah, AJYCP adviser Putul Dutta and many other dignitaries including Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Solanki Vishal Vasant laid the foundation stone.

AJYCPs State organising secretary Siba Kalita said that they would unveil the marble-statue of the best-known folk-artist on March 15, 2016 on the occasion of celebration of Moghai Oja Divas in Jorhat. He said that the district administration and the State PWD department helped them immensely by providing land for the statue at the heart of the town.

The statue is being constructed in Rajasthan which will be unveiled on March 15, said Kalita.

It is to be mentioned that since 1989 the district unit of AJYCP has been celebrating Moghai Oja Divas at his Naoxolia village near Senijan area of the district.
