Foundation of open air stage laid

MIRZA, Nov 5 � To commemorate the 3rd death anniversary of the music maestro at Rampur in Kamrup (Rural) district, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi laid the foundation stone of an open air stage and a park after the hallowed memory of Dr Bhupen Hazarika, the doyen of culture.

In his address at a public meeting held on the occasion, Gogoi said Dr Hazarika�s field of activity was huge like that of an ocean, encompassing life in its entirety. �The legend in his lifetime celebrated life in its entirety. Nothing was too small for his care. Love for humanity, nature, the mighty Brahmaputra, the lifeline of the State, permeates his songs and resonate the air,� he said.

Imbued with the spirit of service to humanity, the icon of music, tried to overcome all the obstacles that created a wedge in the name of language and religion. �The legend who strode like a colossus on the music firmament strove relentlessly to bring an end to the divisions created by language and religion and to unite different communities through his beautiful renditions,� he added.

The Chief Minister said that his Government, imbued with the spirit of serving the people, has taken up a slew of schemes and programmes aimed at raising the living standard of the people.

Earlier, the Chief Minister has declared Rampur � Khidirpukhuri � Gohainpara village in Palasbari LAC as model village and said that the villagers of the model village would get all the facilities related to health, sanitation, education, road communication, SHGs promotion and linkage et . Gogoi also inaugurated two roads of Rampur � Khidiapukhuri village for blacktopping in order to facilitate affordable road communication of the model village today.

Minister for Panchayat and Rural Development, Rakibul Hussain dwelt at length on the new initiatives of the department to construct 50,000 IAY houses for the poor and to build 100 Model Villages across the State.

Local MLA, Jatin Mali also spoke on the occasion. The objective of the meeting was explained by Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup, Rural, Dr J Balaji. It was attended, among others, by Principal Secretary, Panchayat & Rural Development, Sameer Kumar Khare, Secretary, Panchayat & Rural Development, Simanta Thakuria and Commissioner, Panchayat & Rural Development, KK Dwivedi.
