Forum against bandh culture formed at Haflong

HAFLONG, March 2 � To raise voice against the bandh culture in Dima Hasao a forum against bandh culture was formed at Haflong comprising members from each and every apex bodies of the different communities, NGOs, senior citizens, women bodies etc., on Sunday.

The forum was formed in an open discussion held under the aegis of Dima Hasao District Administration and NC Hills Autonomous Council at the circuit house conference hall. The forum was attended by the senior citizens, media persons, representatives of NGOs, apex bodies, women organisations, Deputy Commissioner, Barun Bhuiya, Executive Members Samuel Changsan, Kulendra Daolagupu, L Hmar, A Jeme, Poudamin Nriame, Mehendra Kemprai, Laljoshua Biate among others.

All the speakers opined to form a non-political committee to bring awareness among the people against the bandh culture and to tighten the security and also condemned the recent 100 hours bandh called by the ISF and IWF following which the people particularly the students community suffered a lot to appear in their examinations. They said the district of Dima Hasao has suffered a lot during last few decades due to the bandh culture. After prolong discussion the house resolved to hold peace procession against the bandh culture.

Barun Bhuiya, DC, Dima Hasao said this bandh was unfortunate and to tackle with the situation arising out of such bandh, all possible precautionary measures were taken care of. To tackle with the food crisis due to bandh, he has convened a meeting with the Food & Civil Supply officials and with the merchants.
