Former State soccer player Sirajuddin ill

By Correspondent

DERGAON, May 18 Former State footballer Sirajuddin Ahmed is suffering from kidney related disease and is bed ridden at his Jelehuagaon residence here.

The dreaded left winger was a regular playing member of the Assam Police football team during 1970s and 80s. He was one of the leading players of the Assam Police team, along side noted Gilbertson Sangma, which won the coveted Bordoloi Trophy in 1981. Apart from playing in Santosh Trophy for several years, Chiraj donned the Assam Police colour in all the major football tournaments of the State.

The nimble-footed frontliner is facing acute financial crisis and passing his days without any treatment. Neither the State Government nor the Assam Police are taking stock of his health condition.

The football buffs of the State, including Gilbertson, urged the State Police Department and the State Government to offer him financial assistance so that he could undergo proper treatment.

At present he is serving the State Police Department as ABI and posted at 24th AP (IR)Bn, head quarter at Charaimari in Baksa.
