NEW DELHI, Aug 23 - Delhi Police and Uttar Pradesh Police in a joint operation have arrested a former MLA for allegedly blackmailing AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal.
Ajmal lodged a complaint with the police against former Congress MLA Maviya Ali for blackmailing him over a deal concerning a plot of land at Deoband in Uttar Pradesh.
Ajmal informed the police that Ali had been sending him voice messages for the past few months asking for favours. He had allegedly asked Ajmal to pay Rs 1 crore and to transfer the property in his name.
Delhi Police told newsmen that the Assam MP had approached the police station with a complaint last week following which a case of extortion was registered. The FIR was registered at South Avenue police station. Ajmal also attached copies of the recording along with the complaint as evidence.
Ali was summoned for questioning, but he had failed to appear. On Saturday, Ali was arrested from South Avenue here.
