IMPHAL, Jan 6 - Nongthombam Ajay Singh, son of a former Manipur Minister, was convicted in the sensational Irom Roger Singh murder case by the trial court in its judgement on Friday.

District & Sessions Judge, Imphal West, Maibam Manojkumar Singh announced the verdict in a packed courtroom.

The six-year-old murder case of the teenage boy was taken up by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) after the then State Cabinet took the decision on handing over the sensational murder case to the Central investigating agency.

Ajay Singh was convicted under Section 304 Part II of IPC and Section 27 of Arms Act. The court remanded him to judicial custody following announcement of the judgement. The sentencing hearing will take place on January 11.

The convict, son of former Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh, shot dead Irom Roger in a road rage during Holi festival on March 20, 2011 at Ghari under Singjamei Police Station. The victim was a resident of Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapan, Imphal.

All four other co-accused in the murder case were discharged by an order of the Session Court, Imphal West in 2012 after the charges submitted by CBI against them before the court were found lacking sufficient evidence.
