Former Meghalaya Minister passes away

TURA, Dec 3 - Former Meghalaya Minister and two time MLA from Phulbari constituency, Manirul Islam Sarkar passed away after a heart attack in Guwahati today.

Sarkar had earlier complained of heart pain since early November after which he was rushed to Goalpara and then to Guwahati for treatment. He was later taken to Appolo Hospital in Chennai where he underwent angioplasty on November 9. Doctors advised him rest after which he came back to Guwahati.

�He was taking rest in Meghalaya House in Guwahati for the past few weeks but had a second heart attack this afternoon. He was rushed to Nemcare Hospital where they pronounced him dead at about 4.30 pm,� said his younger brother and MDC of GHADC, Rahibul Islam Sarkar.

The body of the former Minister is being brought to his home at Chibinang. The 53 year-old Sarkar is survived by his wife, one son and two daughters.
