Former GHADC CEM rubbishes corruption allegations

By CORRESPONDENT

TURA, April 25 - Reacting strongly to the allegations of misappropriation of money, former Garo Hills Autonomous Development Council (GHADC) CEM and NPP MDC Denang T Sangma has threatened to file a defamation case against the complainant, Nilbath Marak, an RTI activist.

Nilbath had accused Sangma of misappropriating funds from the Special Plan Assistance (SPA) of Rs 100.71 crore received for execution of GHADC projects during the latters term. The ex-CEM was allocated over Rs 5.7 crore from the sanctioned amount. Marak alleged that at least 19 out of the 46 projects executed by the MDC existed only on paper.

Marak had earlier clarified that he was not a BJP member but an RTI activist.

The allegations against me are totally false and baseless. Almost all projects that were taken up have been completed. However, a few of these projects are a part of ongoing schemes, which would be completed in due course of time, Sangma maintained.

The NPP leader further said, In view of the serious consequences as a public representative that I may have to face in view of such false allegations, I have no choice but to resort to filing a defamation case against all those who have made these false allegations against me.
