Former football referee Bipin Deka dead

GUWAHATI, Oct 6 - Noted former football referee of the State Bipin Chandra Deka died at his Saru Mataria residence here this morning.

Deka was a leading football referee during 1970s and 80s and as a class I referee he officiated lots of important matches of the inter district and Guwahati Sports Association�s (GSA) league matches.

He was the football secretary of the GSA and served the Guwahati Referees� Association (GRA) as secretary. At present Deka was GRA�s vice president.

The 74-year old former referee was an employee of the Industrial State in the electrical department.

His body was taken to the RG Baruah Sports Complex where the officials of the Assam Football Association and the GSA paid floral tribute to the body. Deka�s death was condoled by several organisations and individuals like AFA, GSA, Bishnu Ram Nunisa, secretary of the Assam Sepak Takraw Association, Young Star Football Coaching Centre etc.

He leaves behind his wife one daughter and two sons.
