Former CPI(M) MLA Dipak Bhattacharjee no more

SILCHAR, Jan 29: Former CPI(M) MLA from Hailakandi and veteran politician of Barak Valley Dipak Bhattacharjee passed away on Tuesday at 6.15 am at Silchar Medical College and Hospital. He was 79.

He is survived by his wife Anima Bhattacharjee. According to family sources, he was battling kidney related complications for a long time.

Bhattacharjee was elected to the Assam Assembly in 1978 from Hailkandi constituency. He worked at the grassroots and held various positions in the party, both at the state and national levels.

His death has been condoled by everyone cutting across party lines.

Dulal Mitra, secretary, CPI(M) Cachar district committee, said that the mortal remains of Bhattacharjee would be taken to the Shaheed Bhawan at Malugram from his Deshabandhu road residence at 11 am for paying tributes. The cremation would be held later in the evening.
