Foreign tourists to Manipur asked to contact Health authorities

IMPHAL, Dec 22 - The Manipur Government today appealed to all foreign tourists who visited the State from November 25 till date to report to the health authorities for surveillance and monitoring.

�All international travellers are requested to call up the common COVID control room No. 18003453818 or respective district surveillance officers for further surveillance and monitoring,� stated Dr KS Mangang, spokesperson of the State Health Department in a release.

The step has been taken in view of the detection of a new variant of the novel coronavirus in the UK and cancellation of flights originating from that country.

Meanwhile, with 149 new recoveries in the last 24 hours, the total cured cases in Manipur have reached 25,928, officials said. The recovery rate of the State has risen to 93.52 per cent.

Out of 25,928 recovered cases, 22,747 are from the general population, while the remaining 3,181 are Central security personnel. The newly recovered patients are from 14 COVID care facilities including 65 who were under home isolation. The cumulative number of deaths continues to stand at 337.

Only 39 persons from the general population were confirmed positive at 12 testing facilities in the past 24 hours. The new cases from the general population are from Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Kakching, Senapati and Churachandpur, it added.

The cumulative number of positive cases is 27,723, while the number of active cases is 1,458, it added.
