By Staff Correspondent

SILCHAR, July 7 - In a country where there is massive crisis among people for two square meal a day, there is also a large quantum of food which gets wasted every day. Realising the need to stand against rising instances of hunger and malnutrition, Rotary Club of Silchar took a noble initiative to open a permanent food bank here. A collaborative effort with the Indian Food Banking Network,(IFBN) the food bank is the first of its kind in the North East and 14th across the country, claimed Dr Kiranmoy Das, president of Rotary Club Silchar and Bandana Singh, CEO of IFBN. Rotary Club of Kolkata Mahanagar will be the mentor club in supplying the necessary guidelines. We shall reach out to 1,000 students across four schools of Silchar as a part of the pilot effort. Later, we shall extend the services to the community. We will be giving the students nutritious food for breakfast so that they are well-fed while they do their classes in the schools, said Dr Das.
