MAJULI, April 20 - The Majuli College fraternity today organised �Swagatam Rituraj�, a programme to welcome Bohag and felicitate the folk artistes of this river island.
The programme began with lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the Sri Sri Auniati Satra�s Satradhikar Dr Pitambar Deva Goswami and then a husori was performed by the teaching and non-teaching staff of the college under the mentorship of Asst Prof Kosheswar Hazarika.
Chief guest Dr Pitambar Deva Goswami said in his speech that every letter of the word Bihu has a significant meaning; B means Bond of love, I means Icon of Assam, H means Humanity and U means Unity. Bihu is the combination of spiritualism and naturalism.
As a part of this programme, 15 artistes from the rural areas of the district, who had remained ignored and hidden so far despite their lifelong contribution to the cultural field, were felicitated. Students of Majuli Auniati Hemchandra High School and Auniatiya High School presented a husori during the felicitation.
The programme concluded with Bogai Borah Ojha and his Pali Nabin Saikia performing a mesmerizing Ojha Pali.
The programme was anchored by Tulasi Rajkhowa and presided over by Majuli College Principal Dr Debajit Saikia.
